The history of Africa can be traced from the struggle and anquish pains by the imperialist on the citizens. It was as if hell set loosed when the colonial masters invaded the continent of Africa and cart away with our aboundant resources. Colonialism in Africa was characterized with struggle, slavery and de-humanization of people forcing them to abide nad adopt foreing culture at the detriment of their father land.Little did we know that colonialism in Africa will turn us away from the traditionof our land and disguisedinto unristrictable subjects and slavery to the colonial masters. It all started in the early twelveth century when the imperialist discovered that the African continent was uncivilized and bestowed with aboundandt natural resourses but lack education and unity, they invaded the continent and made us slaves and becoming the controllers of our resources.Though people in Africa lived like animals without any form of contorl and proper management, all what an African man knows was to go to his farm, come home and then have some palm wine with his folks as well as telling stories in the evening.Slavery in the African continent was the common feature of colonialism in Africa. The people were dispocessed of their human rigths and made to serve as slaves under a painful turture and uncondiucive environment. This made alot of tribes to be completely waved-off.However,before analysing the concept of this article,it is factual to consider the descriptionof the word colonialism.Colonialism in Africa can be described as a forceful of the imperialist underdeveloped African countries. It isthe empowerment of the imperialist powers to rob the colonies of both natural and human resources.Futhermore, colonialism in Adrica is also considered as the impoverishment of the African economy and the demoralization of the psyche of the people. It is also the destruction of social values, political and cultural institutions of the African continent.Colonialism in Africa can also be considered as the scramble for Africa which led to the division of the continent between the european countries and the great Britain.Soon,African countries begin to wonder why should these imperialist who were also regared as ex-convicts in their counries to come and deprive the of their legitimate rigthes but little did we know that colonialism in Africa had likewise given us a fore-sigth and sharpened the need for nationalism in Africa.According to the presidentKwame Nkrumah of Ghana in his book Towards colonial freedom;he sighted cogent reasons which gave rise to colonialism in Africa such as the urge to have acess to the raw materials of the colonies inorder to satisfy their industrial needs. This is discovered with the motive the british government had on the raw materials produced by the Anglophone west African countries,Palm produce from Nigeria,Iron ore from Sieria leone, groundnut from Gambia, gold from the Gold coast(Ghana)and coffee from Gambia. The imperialist convected these resources inorde to develope their economy. The bitumen whish was needed to construct and build our roads in Africa continent were forcefully taken away and used to develope theroads of the western counties.Colonialism in Africa resulted to bad roadsin Africa while the great Britaian and the European nations have their roadsproperly developed and constructed.Another reason why colonialism in Africaexisted was the convectiouse desireof the imperialist to take overcontol of the African markets inorder to trade their products.African colonies were hijjacked as a managementresponse to the over population and unemployment problems which became the avenue for dumping the ex-convicts from Britain,France,Portugal,Germany,Spain and other inperialist states into Africa. This contributed to the bane of its development for more than a century.
In this regard, the impact of colonialism in Afica is revealed by the misfortunes of the African states.Apart from enslavement and surpression of the African culture and tradition, there was also a destruction of the educational, trade and industrial develpmental polices as well as direct economic exploitation. The education policy wqwhich was adopted during the colonialism in Africa was rather deregatory development of human infrastructure. The policy emphasized education in art disciplines to only fill the clerical needs of organizations and in some instances emphasizes were placed on technical or vocational education by which Africans were taugth basic agriculture, handcrafts, domestic and industrial skills. However, science and technology in the continent were not taugth to the African citizens hence, colonialism in Africa deprieved the growth of technology in the continent. This is why African countries are still far behind in technology development.Colonialism in Africa has only retarded Africans to peasant farming and handcraftmanship but distrupted economic growth within the continent. We realized the fact that the colonial amsters actually introduced measures of civilization but despite their efforts Afrrica has not been able to compete with other developed counties.Poverty and economic retardation ids still the most prominent results because during the period of colonialism in Africa, the citizens were not educated on how to improve technologically.Colonialism in Africa is what we Africans never pray to experience again because it has made us to subjected to slavery and racism in the developed countries.
